Week 2 No. 4 Safety/Privacy Rant

The so called "right to privacy" like the so called "right to read" is a right that was dearly paid for by many who came before us. It wasn't so very long ago that many people were severly punished by trying to learn to read. There are still al lot of people around the world do not have these "rights." And there's always some bozo coming along who would love to take away these rights from those of us fortunate enough to possess them. So, these rights are always tenative and hanging in the balance.
It is one thing to have our rights eroded through tyranny, but it is quite another to throw them away willy nilly due to our own ignorance or carelessness. In the post Oprah age we live in, too many of us think nothing of "sharing" anything and eveything with anyone who will look or listen. Such is the intense need of humanity to escape from our God given freedom of choice. Personally, it scares the heck out of me (retro gumby that I am) and I wonder where it will end up. Perhaps in a few years we can be like Bruce Sterling's protagonist in The Artificial Kid and have free floating video cameras that follow and record our every move!
