Week 3: #5 More Flickr

My Masonic Home
Originally uploaded by gregb77586
This is the Masonic Home in Alexandria, Louisiana. (Acutally, this is only part of the facility.) It is where I spend a good chunk of my childhood. It is no longer a home for children, but is on the Historic Buildings of Louisiana list and is now the Grand Lodge for the Masons in that neck of the woods (Rapides Parish). Unlike Oliver Twist, my experiences in a "home for children" were for the most part very positive. And somewhat to my amazement - and embarrassment - I can still sing the Masonic Home Song, which one of the house mothers composed, and we sang in public on various occassions. (I was very young!)

Week 3: #5 Flickr

This exercise is a bit confusing, so it's a good thing some of the other staff are further along than I am.

I was acutally at the Banff Springs Hotel once. It was tough, but I survived it. (Of course, I was younger then)

What you can't see in this picture is the Bow River that runs beside the hotel. There is a terrace with a fantastic view of the rapids just below. Perhaps I can find one of my old pictures (circa 1978) and post it later. It is really pretty incredible.

Week 2 No.4 What Sarah is Wearing?

I think the Sarah video pretty much says all that needs to be said (about online safety) -- but who's listening? Unfortunately, we all, (not just the kids) as human beings, have a tendency to leap before we look. Living is just such a messy business!

Week 2 No. 4 Safety/Privacy Rant

The so called "right to privacy" like the so called "right to read" is a right that was dearly paid for by many who came before us. It wasn't so very long ago that many people were severly punished by trying to learn to read. There are still al lot of people around the world do not have these "rights." And there's always some bozo coming along who would love to take away these rights from those of us fortunate enough to possess them. So, these rights are always tenative and hanging in the balance.
It is one thing to have our rights eroded through tyranny, but it is quite another to throw them away willy nilly due to our own ignorance or carelessness. In the post Oprah age we live in, too many of us think nothing of "sharing" anything and eveything with anyone who will look or listen. Such is the intense need of humanity to escape from our God given freedom of choice. Personally, it scares the heck out of me (retro gumby that I am) and I wonder where it will end up. Perhaps in a few years we can be like Bruce Sterling's protagonist in The Artificial Kid and have free floating video cameras that follow and record our every move!

Week 2 No.3 (again) Learning Styles

It must be nice to be so aware of your learning style. I guess I am mostly visual with healthy doses of auditory and tactile thrown in. So who isn't these days (what with the big "I" and all that)? As for being organized, etc., well...but excuse me, I have a customer. (Perhaps these exercises will help me (us) get more focused!

Week 2 No.3 In the Beginning

Dude, where's the on switch? Oh, hey...this looks promising! Cross your fingers and here goes nothing.
